Kutna Hora vs Cesky Krumlov

I am going to Prague at the end of the month and will only be there for 4 days. I want to make a day trip to either Kutna Hora or Cesky Krumlov. Unfortunately I won%26#39;t have time to do both.

Which one should I chose and am I better off doing an organised tour or doing it all myself?

Like comparing apples and oranges the two are completely different.

Cesky Krumlov is a medaeval town nestled next to a river bend underneath a magical castle. With it being dark before 6pm at the end of February, Cesky Krumlov is a long day. It takes 3 to 3.5 hours to get there and probably the only feasible trip in winter is by organised tour. These cost about 1700 to 2000 crowns per person in a private minibus and check whether it includes lunch. You can get there by public transport (train to Ceske Budejovice and then bus or train to Cesky Krumlov), but it is a really long day in winter.

Kutna Hora is an old silver mining town with a beautiful cathedral, renaissance town hall and if you%26#39;re not chaustrophobic, mining muzeum. It also has a really wierd church in a suburb called Sedlec, where all the decorations are made out of human bones. Kutna Hora is reachable in an hour by train from Prague and so you can more easily reach it yourself.

Unless you%26#39;re prepared for a long day, I would choose Kutna Hora in winter, although Cesky Krumlov is quite magical in the snow. If there is snow here, I would go for a third option and go out to the spa town of Karlovy Vary in the mountains, and this is reachable in 2 hours by bus from Prague

Kutna Hora is is easy to get to by train, only an hour from hlavni nadrazi in Prague. Train stops in Kutna Hora hlavni nadrazi which id in Sedlec. Great for Kostnice, the bone church, only a short walk away. Kutna Hora centre is a bit of a walk but well worth it. Some lovely streets and churches and St Barbara%26#39;a is amzing. We really enjoyed even if was like one big ice skating rink in some places and that was last week!!

Here is a link to the train and bus timetable

Don%26#39;t bother with an organised tour, they charge around £20 each. Me %26amp; my girlfriend did it for about a total cost of £10, including return train tickets, entrance to Kostnice %26amp; St Barbara%26#39;s and lovely food as well!!!

Peb, yeah that was a year and a bit ago. It was really cold, hence the look on my face!! Budapest is a great city, much bigger feel than most of the other places I%26#39;ve been to. Not as pretty as Prague but saying that what city is??
