Metro Fare

I just got back from Prague last week. While I was there, I used the public transportation, tram and subway. However, I still haven%26#39;t quite figured out the fare system and I ended it up buying the day-pass each time just to be on the safe side. It was a good thing since the fare inspectors showed up quite often.

Local experts: what does it mean on the basic fare of 14 crowns limited transfer for two zones? The zones meaning geographical area or acutally two modes of transportation, i.e. tram and/or subway? And the 20 crowns fare, for 60 min during rush hours and 90 mins other times with unlimited transfrer? And what are the 8 crowns ticket for? I read the instructions on the back of fare ticket and at the metro station, still don%26#39;t quite get it...Do local people really buy these individual tickets and bother to keep track of the time?

I%26#39;m curious. Thanks.

What are the prices of the week and day tickets?

3 DAYS - 220CZK

7 DAYS - 280CZK - ABOUT $12us

15 DAYS - 320CZK

MONTH - 460CZK

Probably the best value in Prague - except maybe the beer!

Zones only really matter when you are on the edge of Prague - if you stay in the city, this doesn%26#39;t affect you.

14 crown ticket is valid for 20 minutes (only on one tram - if you get off a tram and onto another, or onto the metro, you need anaother 14 crown ticket). On the metro, the 14 crown ticket is valid for 5 stations from where you join the metro, but you can change metro line.

20 crown ticket allows unlimited changes (bus, tram or mtero) within the 75 minutes (90 minutes off peak times) that you travel.

Was not aware of an 8 crown ticket.

Local people do take care of the time they have travelled. Because the system is an honour system and many people abuse it, the ticket inspectors give no leniency if you exceed travelling your ticket, even fiev minutes over.

However, as most people have said, buying a multiple day ticket is not expensive and as you can buy these at the airport, it takes away all the hassle of not worrying about whether you have a ticket or if your ticket is valid or not

Thank you again; I think a 7 day ticket is %26quot;just the ticket%26quot;
