Where to stay in prague?

Hi,

I%26#39;m taking my hubby to Prague for a suprise for his birthday.

I have looked at several hotels, but,I am a little confused in which part of the city to stay.

The hotels I have most favoured the look of are Andel%26#39;s ( on reading info wonder if 2 far out of centre). The other hotels I have favoured are Corinthia Towers, KK Central( which looks like it has some nice views)and constans.

We both like comfortable hotels and it would be nice to have a view, but I do not fancy being in the middle of bars/restaurants.

We will be doing all the historical tours and of course shopping.

Would be grateful for some speedy advice as leaving on 27 feb.

cheers.

Hi,

been to prague a couple of times and stayed on kampa just over the charles bridge and wenslaslas square.

have thought next time either just over the bridge again because we found it easy to get everywhere from there, or near the jewish quarter. the intercontinental ( with river views)looks a good bet and it is only a few minutes walk to the old town square.

Having said that most of the hotels are within walking distance of majority of the sites you will want to see

enjoy

Corinthia towers is down near Vysherad which is quite far out. Andels although reasonable distance is well connected by public transport. Generally I%26#39;d stay in Mala Strana (lesser quarter) area as its quieter. Prague centre is relatively compact with excellent public transport.

Never stayed in any that you mentioned but I%26#39;ve seriously considered the constans but its been full when I wanted it.

Dave is right Kampa island is a good central choice.

I usually book hotel through www.athos.cz

We use www.athos.cz as well. They are excellent !!! Check out their site. The info on hotels includes maps showing their location.

We are staying in Mala Strana for our second trip to Prague next month. Hotel U Karlova Mostu on Kampa Island.

Good Luck !!!

Andels is connectable to both the old town and the castle area by has some good reviews on this site. K%26amp;K Central is walkable distance from the city, but isn%26#39;t as luxurious or as new as Andels. Agree with Sarah that Corinthia Towers (although the views of the city from the upper floors are fantastic) is quite some way out

In your opinion would you say that andel%26#39;s is too far out or, once out for the day that it is an ok distance, also, are there plenty of restaurants %26amp; coffee shops in this area. I have looked at loads of hotels always referring back to trip advisor. Are there any place you suggest sort of mid range budget.

Cheers

Andels is too far out if you want to walk everywhere. If you are prepared to cacth the tram or metro 10 minutes into the centre then it is not. If you want to be in the centre KK Central is much nearer. Try also the new Ibis on Na Porici opening in April; most newly opened hotels have introductory offers

My partner and I have just returned from 3 nights at The Certovka Hotel in Prague, yesterday.

Last year we stayed in The Charles.

Both are in Mala Strana (Lesser Town)and would recommend.

Continental breakfasts very average in both though!

This is the perfect base for sight-seeing at the foot of Charles bridge.

You can walk almost everywhere from here and its Pragues most beautiful location.

However, a brilliant tram service is based just 5 mins away.

Make sure you pre-purchase tram tickets from newsagents or Tourist Information office.

There are lots of excellent little local bars and cafes just off the main tourist drags in Prague, little gems around every corner.

The Aria Hotel also in Mala Strana is more expensive, but fabulous.

We looked around during our last stay.

Staff by far the friendliest and most genuine we have come across in Prague Hotels.

The Four Seasons facing Mala Strana across the river is a wonderful Hotel.

This is close to Old Town too.

We visited The Four Seasons for afternoon tea

during our recent stay.

Fabulous!

Andels is far too far out of Central Prague for my liking.

The shopping centre is fab.

Lots of designer shops.

Area quite industrialised, not my idea of a good base in Prague.

But you can easily reach it by tram.

We did last year.

Ok for a day trip, but wouldn%26#39;t want to stay there.

One tip wherever you stay is to be selective about your room if it matters.

For example, we always pay extra for deluxe or superior rooms when theres an option, and request low floor because many older style Hotels in Prague have tiny, scarey lifts!

I always make sure we have rooms with a view, large windows and a bathroom which has bath too, as many only offer shower, when the budget allows.

Have also stayed at The Joseph Design Hotel between Old Town and The Jewish area

Hotel nice, very minimalist, fantasiic breakfasts!

Main gripe was surrounding area is a rabbit warren and we kept getting lost trying to find our way back to Hotel.

Many streets are very similarly named in Prague just to confuse you!

Stayed at The Intercontinental too.

This was too big and corporate for my liking, although close to River and about 10 mins from Charles Bridge.

Hope you enjoy your stay, whichever Hotel you choose.

Beware of pickpockets on trams, Charles Bridge and Old Town.

Avoid Wenceslas Square as a base to stay.

Very commercialised.

Fast food outlets, seedy clubs etc.

Have fun!

Thanks for you post pragophile, very helpful and, after hours of trawlling through hotels I was definately narrowing my search to the old town. You sound as though have similar tastes to myself - baths instead of showers, rooms with views and a decent breakfast.

Thanks again for the post

Hotel Mala Strana Residence *** is the same as mentioned in posts before (found at http://www.athos.cz/). Right?
