Beyond Prague

Recently got back from Prague and loved it, despite the minus 20C temp. Decided to head back in July to see it in sunshine. We%26#39;re going for 8 nights and would like to travel around, probably take in Cesky Krumlov. Any suggestions for anywhere else? We don%26#39;t drive and are looking for a few days peace and a few days noise.

Don%26#39;t miss Cesky Krumlov. We just loved it. Storybook like little town.

Although Krumlov is beautiful I suspect it will be very busy with tourists in July. My favourite area is Cesky Raj which is great for walking and beautiful rocks. Its about an hour from Prague, from here you could go to Olomouc which is a lively university town (probably wouldn%26#39;t spend four nights here).

We spent 3 weeks touring in September 2005 and managed happily on public transport. Might be an idea to let me know what you mean by peace, I mean are you walkers, buildings or scenery?

I visited Prague last September and made a couple of day trips out of the city. I went to Kutna Hora which is a small city with beautiful cathedral and a very nice town center. Part of this trip was a visit to the %26quot;Bone Church%26quot; in Sedlec, not for everyone but definitly an interesting place. I also did a trip to Plsen where the Pilsner Urquell brewery is located. We went on a tour of the brewery, ate lunch at their pup, and walked into the city center which was really nice. I enjoyed gettingh to see a little more of what the Czech Republic has to offer, all in all a wonderful place!

Whilst Cesky Krumlov is popular in the summer, in general, it is full of day trippers. That means that by 6pm on a summers evening, the place can be pretty much deserted - same stroy until 11am in the morning before the day trippers arrive.

It takes the good part of a day to get from Prague to Cesky Krumlov by public transport, so if you stay 2 nights (or 3 nights if you want to have a day trip to Ceske Budejovice or the countryside around), you will not get bored.

Thanks for the good advice everyone. We%26#39;ll definitely go to Cesky Krumlov for a few days, then maybe some daytrips out of Prague for some walking/scenery. Can%26#39;t wait!

If you are looking for a day trip out of Prague then why not go to Kutna Hora. Easy to get to by train, got to Kostnice (bone church) in Sedlec then walk into Kutna Hora. Really nice town, some lovely old streets and sights. Then on to the amazing St Barbara%26#39;s cathedral, which is really impressive.

We took a train to Tabor, about 1 1/2 hours.Nice small town, not too touristy.Went on a tour of the underground tunnels underneath the old town square.Although we really enjoyed Prague,we found Tabor a pleasant change for a day out.Train ticket was very cheap, about 200kr return.
