Parents visiting Prague

Hello, My parents are going to visit Prague from March 5-8th. They are staying at the Kampa Garden Hotel. They fly into Prague via Germanwings. Do you suggest they take the metro to the hotel (is that possible?) or should they have a service take them? Also they are interested in going to a concert and of course seeing the sites.

Is there a way to check which concerts are playing while they are visiting? Also would it be best for them to see the sites on their own or is there a tour group that someone would suggest?

Thank you for any help or ideas.

Jeanie

they could use the cedazs taxis from the Airport, costs around 450czk,but you may be able to arrange a hotel taxi for about 650ckz,this is what I normaly do and it saves any hassle.

www.ticketsbti.cz will give you a list of what operas and concerts will be on.I willbe in prague over and beyond the same period andi know there is not a great deal in the classical concerts available, but there may be something to suit your parents

Hi

We%26#39;re staying at the Kampa Garden Hotel in April, I am a great one for public transport and I%26#39;ve worked out that this is the cheapest way to transfer. We will get the 119 bus from the airport to Dejvicka and then the underground to Malostranska, then a tram to Malostranska Namesti. Total cost peanuts. From Malostranska Namesti follow the crowds down to the Charles Bridge and then take the steps on the left down onto Kampa Island, go under the bridge and the hotel can%26#39;t be far. (Sorry Czech people about the name spelling)

We%26#39;ve also booked tickets at the Opera using www.ticketportal.cz

If you go to their events calendar it tells you about the concerts which are going on during your stay, and then shows you a plan of the auditorium so you can choose where to sit and how much to pay. You then pay by credit card and arrange for the tickets to be delivered to the hotel.

I hope they have a lovely stay, Prague is so beautiful I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;ll enjoy every minute.

Kampa Garden is too far from the metro to walk. As well as the shared Cedaz minibus, try looking at www.prague-airport-shuttle.com, and dimotaxis - www.dimotaxi.cz which people have commented favourably on this site

As for what is going on, if your parents are German speaking, pick up a copy of Prague Zeitung, the German language weekly when they arrive, or if they are English speaking, the Prague Post.

The main ticket agencies www.ticketsbti.cz, as unclegus has said (on Na Prikope street, just past the Lacoste shop), Ticketpro (www.ticketpro.cz) on the corner of Rytirska and Na Mustku at the bottom of Wenceslas Square or the National Theatre ticket office opposite the Theatre of Estates should be able to sort most people out for tickets if they want to buy in advance.

I personally wouldn%26#39;t hire a guide to see the city - it is easy to look at what you want to see with a good guidebook. When in the castle itself, hiring a guide is more useful, for exmaple; to really appreciate the Spannish hall

I personally agree with Peb7 that the Kampa Garden Hotel was a bit far to walk from the Metro Station considering hauling the travel bags on cobble stone streets. It is about a 15-min walk from the Station to hotel. Without luggage, there would be no problem. I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights while I was in Prague and just returned yesterday. Speaking from experience, when I tried to get to the train station via Metro for my trip to Vienna one morning, I hauled my carry-on to the metro station and it wasn%26#39;t that much fun.

The hotel offered airport pick-up service for 600 kr for up to 4 people and for drop-off it%26#39;s 550 kr since they don%26#39;t have to pay for parking to drop me off.

Apart from that, the hotel was great, non-smoking and very very clean. It is close to Charles Bridge and two tram stops to the Castle. Everything is still new being just opened September of last year. The staff was so nice that they packed us sandwich breakfast the morning when we left for the airport at 4:30 am.
