Help!

Hi,i am about to go to Prague with 5 friends for a weekend(1st time without our children!)we are staying in the novotel nr. to wencelas square and would really appreciate any advice on best places to eat(not too expensive!)and again to drink..

we are all in our 30%26#39;s so don%26#39;t want anything too mad,but like places lively with atmosphere..we haven%26#39;t got a fortune to spend but if it%26#39;s worth a little bit more to go there then we all would rather do that..

also any general tips would be appreciated

i.e..best tickets to buy for travelling in the city,are cash machines plentiful?(might need those!)any advice would really help...thanks

If you are on a budget,avoid Wenceslas Square for food/drink %26amp; Irish pubs.There are numerous bars in some of the backstreets with good Czech beer.Ask peb7 for more info.Suggest you buy a 3 day travel pass which includes metro,buses %26amp; trams,very good value.

Come out of the Novotel, turn left and take the first right downhill (Melounova). Banditos bar/restaurant is on the right about 20 metres. Take a look at www.livingprague.com/money.htm for the money questions.

Or, come out of the hotel and walk 20 metres to the main road. Follow the tramline down to the left until you reach the crossroads. The Pivovarsky Dum (brewery house) is opposite. Great for Czech beer and food.

You will need to use the metro or tram every day (hotel is about 20 minutes from Wenceslas Square once you take into account you need to cross two busy roads), but very near to IP Pavlova tram and metro station. It is also a steep uphill walk on the way back from the centre. Buy a 3 day tram and metro ticket at the airport for 220 crowns and then you don%26#39;t have to worry about them for the rest of the weekend.

JB Club further down Katerinska the same street as the Novotel is a good steak restaurant. Ponte on Anglicka the other side of IP Pavlova metro is a good reasoanable priced international restaurant, as is Zahrada v Opere, behind the state opera house.

Down the hill on Karlovo namesti is a good Kogo restaurant in the Charles Square office center and round the corner in Myslikova is a good Thai restaurant called Lemon Leaf (but you need to book)..

Cash machines in the city are plentiful, but run your fingers over them before you use them (especially those that are not at banks), just to make sure there is nothing untoward. There are cash machines at the airport and one at Commerzbank on IP Pavlova.

I walked where Ponte was recently and I think it is not called Ponte anymore.

Also, I ate at Banditos recently. I%26#39;m not sure if you%26#39;d want to eat at a Mexican-style place in Prague. Neither I nor my friend thought the food was very good -- the chicken breast was warmed-over and dry, the steak was tough.

|||

Also, I looked at Sova%26#39;s website -- no disrespect meant -- it needs a small update. The restaurant Bazaar is gone and has been replaced by Cowboys steak house. Pretty good rib eye steak. The sides, not so great.

|||

Thanks for the update...have you got any suggestions on where to go?as we are only in prague for such a short time it would be helpful to have an idea of some places to go..as long as the food and atmoshere are good we don;t mind.

perhaps you could help with a quick question as well..which is the best way to get from the airport to our hotel?and are the taxis in prague expensive?..appreciate your help..

Take a cab! You%26#39;ll find them right outside the terminal in Czech republic also :) To many people at this site in my opinion make a big effort about going from the airport to Prague Centrum, belive my it%26#39;s really easy.

Get on the metro to CERNY MOST, then catch any bus from stop 11 to Brandys nad Labem,(15min) Good King Wenceslas is buried here, great food in ALL, castle, river, ancient churches and NO TOURISTS..... see dandylion.cz for rooms at 300 CZk... The Russians married Stara Boleslav to Brandys, to dilute the enormous power of the churches in the town, it worked, but the town is oh so beautiful, come look.
