Train from Prague to Krakow

We want to take the sleeper from Prague to Krakow in a couple of weeks from now. We want a room on the train to ourselves. Do we need to book now or can we just buy a ticket in Prague a day or two in advance? We are on a tight schedule and don%26#39;t want to get stuck but can%26#39;t work out if we can buy the ticket over the internet.

Easiest to buy a ticket when you come over, but then on the 1st or 2nd day of your visit - i.e. definately at least the day before you travel. You can only ensure you have a compartment to yourself by buying the whole compartment. Obviously 1st class compartments have less seats / bunks than 2nd class

We arrive on Wednesday the 23rd and leave on Friday the 25th. Do you think that is enough time? If so, where should we go to buy the ticket (sorry for all the questions!).

I was thinking maybe we should email our hotel and ask them to buy the ticket for us.

one day before should be easily enough. I would buy the ticket personally, as then you will buy what you need and you wont pay any middleman commission.

Quicker ways of buying tickets than standing at the international ticket office in the central station are to go to the Czech Railways agency office in Celetna next to the Marriott, or at the central station to go upstairs to the Wasteels office. Both should sell you the price of the same tickets as the main counter, but check before you buy whether these offices can make you actual seat reservations.

Yes, buy a ticket as soon as you get to prague. The only ways to do it on internet are more expensive.

The easiest way (which i just discovered after 3 years) to buy a ticket is to go to the Cedok Travel agency office on na prikope (it is a street at the bottom of wenceslas square that runs perpendicular). So when you are looking at the museum, turn left on a prikope and walk down about 200m and it is on the right.

They can give you tickets reservations, schedules, everything...and unlike at the central train station, they are sure to speak good English.

If you don%26#39;t want the hassle and don%26#39;t plan paying 50% more, go to raileurope.com and click %26quot;train tickets%26quot; on the menu...but you%26#39;ll have to know the exact route including intermediate stations.

If you don%26#39;t mind I have a question along the same topic. We would like to visit Prague and Budapest from August 12 to August 15. Arriving in Prague on August 12 and taking the overnight train to Budapest on August 13. How can I buy the ticket on the internet? We are worried about waiting until the last minute to buy at the train station in Prague and being unable to find tickets. Thank you very much.

european railways website allows you do buy tickets over the internet, but they are significantly more expensive than bought at Prague station. Even in summer, overnight trains are not full.

Can I just pick you up on your schedule. Arriving in Prague sometime on August 12th, taking the overnight train to Budapest on 13th and returning on 15th?

Doing Prague in a day? Would you advise people do Paris in a day?

Prague in two days actually. I agree with you, Prague in two days is probably not a good way to see the city, but we are travelling with my husband%26#39;s young brother who wants to see as much possible in the 4 days we have, so we thought Prague and Budapest might be a good trip.

I meant to say you will pay a whole lot more at www.raileurope.com, but you can buy tickets there...but check out the rail passes, it could be cheaper and you%26#39;ll have the ticket before you leave. But you might still need to buy a seat reservation in Prague.

Peb7, i%26#39;ve seen quite a few overnight trains that are full in the summer time, especially on weekends.

Prague and Vienna would be a better combination and the train journey only takes 4 hours and needn%26#39;t be made overnight.
