Itinerary suggestions for July 2006 please.

We will be first time visitors, arriving in Prague July21st 2006 and need some helpful information for our stay.[ Aged in our 60s but active and can walk easily.]

1. Is the airport shuttle bus the best way to get from the airport[ arrive 3.40 pm.] to the Mucha hotel? Can we obtain it without pre booking?

2. We have an organised Grand City Tour with Premiant tours [ 3 1/2- 4 hours]for July 22nd.

where is this tour likely to take us?

3. Will have July 23rd and July 24th as full free days. Need suggestions of what to see during these days.

Not interested in ballet, what other night time sights are worth seeing?

4. Is it worth while taking a day trip somewhere outside of Prague- if so where do you suggest?[ we would book this on arrival at hotel ,Organized tour]

5. Leave Prague July 25th, can we get a shuttle transfer from the Mucha hotel to the airport?

6.What is the weather normally like at this time of the year?

7. Is the Mucha hotel conveniently located to the major city sights?

8. Are taxis very expensive?

.Any other advice gratefully received.

Thank you.

If you mean by the shuttle bus the Cedaz shared minibuses (which are outside the airport when you arrive), as you are outside the centre, for 2 of you, the cost of 960 crowns may be more than a taxi door to door, and you won%26#39;t need to wait whilst the minibus drops everyone else off on the way. Look also at www.prague-airport-shuttle.com, as they should be able to give you a cheaper price, or ask the hotel how much it costs for them to arrange an airport transfer.

As you are a little outside of the centre, it is worth buying a transport pass (for metro and tram). 3 day passes cost 22 crowns and 7 day passes cost 280 crowns. You can buy these at the Prgaue Transport Authority offices once you have come out of customs at the airport - it%26#39;s better buying from here, as in metro stations, people don%26#39;t speak much English.

I personally think the city tours are a waste of money, unless you cannot walk far. If it is a bus tour and not a walking tour, they will take you round the outskirts of the old town (most of this is pedestrianised), although you will see the edge of the old town square and up to the castle (but not in it). Prague is compact enough for you to be able to see things yourself easily.

If you are only here for 4 days, I wouldn%26#39;t go outside the city. If you want somewhere outside the city to visit, take the metro out to Vysehrad, where the original castle was situated. The view to the current Prague castle is astonishing.

Best thing to do in the summer, is sit outside in a restuarant or cafe and walk round the streets and especially over the Charles Bridge in the evening. Summer is generally quite hot (over 20 degrees), but not too hot.

Mucha is outside the city centre, but you can connect easily by metro (10 minutes walk) or by tram (almost outside) to it, hence the recommendation for a travel pass

Returned last week from Prague and stayed for 4 nights at the Mucha hotel. It is excellent, very clean, huge breakfast choice and all the staff very helpful with good English.

Don%26#39;t bother with taxis or mini buses, in the airport, just out of arrivals is an official transport booth, we bought the 7 day passes for £7 each equivalent. It is all you will need for the entire stay including getting to the hotel. Once you have your pass the bus stops are directly outside, catch the No. 100, validate your ticket as soon as you get on in the little yellow box, once done it is OK for the week, get off at the last stop called Zlicin, English comentary on the bus. Follow signs to Metro, this is the end of the line so it only goes one way, you can%26#39;t go wrong. Once on if I remember correctly it is 14 stops to Florenc station, get off there and when out of the station walk right and the Mucha is approx 100 yards on the right hand side.

Make sure you have your tickets with you whenever you ride the metro, we were asked to produce them by the official ticket inspectors. One more thing if you have large bags buy another ticket for them, 10 Kr, about 25p.

The return journey is obviously the same but in reverse, give it a go, I was dubious myself but it really is very easy.

Enjoy your stay, Prague is beatiful !!!
