airport to U Karlova mostu

hi all

after reading posts have booked this hotel and as we will be arriving during the day would like to use the public transport. I gather we get the 119 bus to the Dejvicka then the metro to the town. Which metro line is it and if we get a 3 day pass at the airport will that cover us for everything. also how far will we have to walk with out bags from the metro to the hotel?

THANKS!

Hi Kazbah, I%26#39;m Czech living in England but whenever I travel home through Prague I always get a minibus. I think they take up to 7 people and it wouldn%26#39;t cost you more than 350 Korunas if you%26#39;re on your own. Taxis are approximately 500. Have a good trip mate

Get the Cedaz its much easier to that location, 480Kc for upto 4 people (about £12).

However if you are determined to get the bus, then bus to Dejvicka, metro to malostranka, hop on the 22 tram for one stop to malostranska namesti. Then follow the crowd down the hill toward Chrales bridge, do not go onto bridge. When you get there loop left under bridge, hotel is big yellow building on the left.

think sarah sums it up that with public transport, the last legs; tram from Malostranske to Malostranske namesti (not much room for bags on trams) and then wheeling your luggage on the deep cobbled streets through the crowds isn%26#39;t the best way to start your holiday. In other words, I would only use public transport if the hotel is near enough to the metro, which I don%26#39;t think he U Karlova mostu is

Cedaz, as Sarah says, is a good option. It gives door to door service in a shared minibus (you may need to go elsehwere to drop other people in the minibus off first) for a good price.

adrianf. Do you know a different minibus company (350 crowns per person?). Sarah has the correct Cedaz price (480 crowns for 1 to 4 people, which of course, is only slightly less than a taxi

Hi, I%26#39;m a bit confused now. I remember it used to cost 165 Kc to the train station(Hlavni nadrazi) then they put the price up and I think I paid something like 250 Kc/person. I definatly wouldn%26#39;t walk it from the metro dragging all your bags behind...Get the minibus, they charge decent prices...lol

Hi

As you say you get the 119 bus to Dejvicka then the metro to Malostranska, I think it%26#39;s the green line, check that! Come out of the metro station and get a tram from outside to Malostranska Namesti, it%26#39;s only a stop or two but with bags worth it. Then follow the crowds to the Charles Bridge, you cross over the road and while facing the buildings turn right and then almost immediately left.

Walk down towards the Charles Bridge and go down the steps on your left, walk under the Bridge and your hotel is round there somewhere.

We%26#39;re staying in that area too in April and I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to use public transport, you can buy a ticket for the week for less than one trip from the airport.

If you are staying for 3 or 4 nights I would buy the weekly pass it%26#39;s only a few pence more but covers you for your whole time.

Lastly, when you%26#39;ve bought your ticket at the airport kiosk don%26#39;t forget to validate it when you get on the bus, there are machines on the hand rails to do this.

Have a good trip

Jackie

Thanks everyone - that%26#39;s great help....just wondering now how much the 3 day passes are and would it be worth it for two and half days or will walking be much better as we%26#39;d see more while en route??

more thanks

(am excited now but not going till the end of march!)

3 day passes are 220 crowns. Jackie%26#39;s instructions on using public transport is spot on (it is the green line).

If you are staying in Mala Strana, you will only need public transport to get up the hill either to the castle or up Petrin hill funicular; everywhere else is walkable. Therefore if you do not take the 119 bus from the airport to the hotel, you may be better buying a bundle of 14 crown single tickets from the Prague Transport Authority offices at the airport instead

Was 220Kc last time I was over so about £5.80 at current exchange of 38Kc to £1 (ee I remember when it was 55Kc=£1, disgraceful). I use public transport a lot when in Prague.

Hi Sarah

Nationwide would give you over 41 to the pound at the moment with no hidden charges, it is honestly worth opening an account even if you only use it for travelling.

When are you going to Krakow by the way, I%26#39;m pretty sure it%26#39;s soon?

Jackie

Hi Jackie

Nationwide should put you on comission! I%26#39;m seriously thinking about it but I%26#39;m soo busy at the moment.

Krakow 21st March and then Venice 31st March (for my 30th) can%26#39;t wait seems like an age since we%26#39;ve been away (Feb in Barcelona!)

You%26#39;re in Krakow soon too aren%26#39;t you?

Sarah
