Peb 7

Thanks for the new churches to check out in December, I%26#39;d heard about the one with the bullet holes but hadn%26#39;t worked out which one it was.

Also when you look towards Vysherad from the TV tower you can see what looks like a church with two pointy bits. It isn%26#39;t the church of the sacred heart but seems to be behind it. Any ideas what/where I mean?

Settled on Venice for my birthday surprise (booked by me obviously!).

Hope you%26#39;re keeping well, and not too cold at the moment.

this is the St Ludmila church in the centre of Namesti Miru. Looks much like the church at Vysehrad.

Venice is excellent (I was sceptical about the place before I went, but absolutely loved it, even though I fell in the canal and it is absolutely true that the water is full or s..t). You don%26#39;t need to take a vaporetto from the airport (assuming you are flying to Marco Polo and not Treviso - which is about one hundred miles out of Venice) or a water taxi. Take the regular bus from the airport and then buy a multiple water taxi ticket for your stay at the station and take that.

Don%26#39;t go to Murano, but go to Burano (wonderful mini Venice with small coloured houses) and the Byzantine church at Torcello, which was where the original Venice was situated before it got too big - magical and quite creepy. For a tip, the water taxi goes to an island (can%26#39;t remember the name of it, but it is connected to Burano by bridge. Get off there and walk across, because the boat then goes out to Torcello before going to Burano (in other words you can walk there quicker).

Do spend money and go into the Doge Palace - it is absolutely fascinating

Was in Torino end of last week and at the weekend at the Olympics. Even though the majority of people I cheered on did not win, the event was absolutely magical. Torino itself is a real dump; and not helped by the fact it rained most of the time

Think its more modern than St Ludmilla, been there. Is there anything else looks very modern almost cubist but pointy.

Who needs a guide book when I%26#39;ve got you?

|||

Zizkov church in Sladevskeho namesti in Zizkov or the St Cyril %26amp; Methodeus church in Karlinske namesti in Karlin?

Or the Czech telecom building in Kubelikova?

Did you know that St Vitus%26#39; cathedral in the castle was only completed in 1929 - means it is only 3 years older than the sacred heart church in namesti Jirho z Podebrad and a lot younger than most of the other churches in Prague

|||

And I thought I was the only one who fell in a canal in Venice..

|||

I thought St Vitus was a lot older than that.

My big question at the moment is will they ever ever finish La Sagrada and if the do will it be true? Love Barcelona by the way.

Will go for a hunt for the building I mean when we%26#39;re back in Prague.

The back half and the central tower is older. The front half and the two gothic towers were constructed under the first republic.

Love Barcelona also and all the Gaudi architecture. Haven%26#39;t been there for years and must find an excuse to go again
