A quiet afternoon - Vysehrad or Vinohrady?

We have planned most of our upcoming 3-day stay in Prague, but we have some spare time on Sunday afternoon, which I would like to get some help planning. We have discussed to options, Vysehrad or the Vinohrady area. Where can we best spend an afternoon, just walking about, having a nice late lunch or coffee break, not necessarily doing any heavy sightseeing?

At the moment, I think Vinohrady is my top choice, as I love Jugendstil / Art Noveau. Also, I imagine Vysehrad is best viewed in summer, or am I wrong?

Any input or recommendations are welcomed.

Vysehrad is more historical than picturesque and it can be a bit exposed in the winter.

If you like Jugendstill architecture, Vinohrady is excellent. Get off at Namesti Miru metro or tram station, walk to the Vinohrady theatre on the square. Walk to the corner of Italska street, and walk down Italska until you come to Vinohradska, cross over Vinohradska and walk up the hill until you come to Budecska street and the Vinohradske pavillon. turn left into Budecska, walk to the end of the street, up the steps to the sports hall, but turn right at the steps and walk right round the sports hall into Riegrovy Sady park. Walk round the park to the left until the opening of the trees where there is a wonderful view of Prague and the old town.

Double back on yourself to the end of the park and walk down Na Svihance and back down Krkonosska (the two most beautiful Jugendstill streets in Vinohrady).

Walk down U Kanalky until you get to Manesova. Reward yourself with lunch either at Aromi in front of you or further left down the hill on the corner of Manesova and Trebizskeho at Ambiente.

After lunch, walk up Manesova to Jiriho z Podebrad to the church of the sacred heart and then catch the metro back into town.

Take a camera and a neck brace; you will always be looking up.

Peb7%26#39;s description sounds fabulous. We were in Prague last week for our 13th visit in 6 years and I miss the place already. We were in Vysehrad on Tuesday and it was very cold and very empty. A great walk, but not much else at the moment because the weather is so overcast.

Vysehrad Cemetery is another great Jugendstil highlight of Prague. Granted it is a little quieter than Vinohrady or Obecni Dum and there are far fewer options for a stop in a cafe. But, there is so much beauty in the memorials and headstones of this cemetery

We just returned from Prague, and we had a great Sunday afternoon at Charles Square. There is a great market across from the park (in a modern shopping/business complex) where we bought bread, salami, turkey andcheese (as well as drinks), and then ate in the park. There were all sorts of people to watch and plenty of benches to sit on. It was a great lunch. Then we were able to walk to U Fleku for a pivo and found a great Absinth Bar nearby for cocktails.

Thank you all for tips and advice!

Peb7, I will make sure to print your suggested route and bring it with me.

Unclegus, we are planning a visit to Municipal House Saturday morning. We%26#39;ll have breakfast in the café, and hopefully we%26#39;ll see some of the building. But a proper guided tour would be lovely, so you%26#39;re right, if the weather is bad, it will be a good alternative for Sunday afternoon.
