etiquette question

Maybe this sounds dumb, but here goes. I want to call the hotel I have reserved to check about airport transfers. I%26#39;m assuming they will answer the phone in Czech. Should I just start speaking in English and hope for the best? Would it be presumptous to think the person on the other end will speak English? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The front desk staff at hotels in Prague generally do speak English (and German). Just say %26quot;Hello, do you speak English?%26quot;. That is the polite way to give the person on the other end a second to get ready to speak English.

I think saying hallo and starting a conversation in English is just fine, all 4* or 5* hotels most likely have staff that speaks English at least to some extent. If they don%26#39;t they will pass the phone on to somebody who does.

Also, unless you are fluent in Czech, I don%26#39;t think you really have different option.

Depends on Hotel!

Yes, just start speaking in English.

We visit Prague regularly and can recommend Prague Shuttle service (see web).

They are reasonable, reliable and cheaper than taxis.

No payment is needed up-front and you get e.mailed confirmation.

They have always been waiting for us on arrival, holding up a sign with our name clearly marked on it.

Only the top end of the market (Hotels), seem to offer limo or free collection.

We booked our transfer direct with Hotel this Feb and they just booked us a normal taxi company.

This was slightly more expensive than Prague Shuttle Service, whose mini buses were spotless and drivers English speaking and very courteous.

Hope this helps!
