train travel question

We will be using the train from Budapest to Prague and have never used trains in Europe.

What do we do with our luggage....keep it with us at all times or does it go somewhere?? Also, the trip is about 7 hours and we are going during the day. Do we take food or is there food on the train. What is the custom?? Is it easy to get from the train station to our hotel (in Mala Strana) or should we make arrangemnts to be met??

Any other info sure would be appreciated. Thanks much.

Luggage either goes on the luggage racks above the seats or in the space between the seats below. Keep your luggage with you at all times, or it will go somewhere.

There is a buffet car, but as it is a captive audience, the food, service and prices leave somethng to be desired. You are obviously best to bring at least some snacks and drink with you.

Mala Strana is too far from both Prague stations; you will need either to take a taxi or public transport to whatever part of Mala Strana you are staying in

Thanks so much for the info. I may have been a bit off with our location. We will be staying at the Hotel Kampa Garden which I think is or near the Mala Strana area. Is that correct? It sounds like private arrangements should be made in order to get to the hotel from the train station. Another question, regarding money to pay the driver. Is there an ATM at the station since we will have been using Hungarian monies prior to our arrival in Prague.

There are ATM%26#39;s at the stations but take care that you run your hands over them to make sure there is nothing untoward.

Ditto the taxi drivers - agree your price beforehand. Trip from both stations should not exceed 400 crowns
