Just got back from staying at U Karlova Mostu

Just returned from another wonderful trip, this time to celebrate my 50th.

We had one of the suites in teh roof at U Karlova Mostu and the view was wonderful, especially when there was a firework display on Tuesday evening over the river. Anyone any idea what it was celebrating?

Weather was beautiful and no need for the boots although pain from cobblestones was quite bad.

Food and beer excellent as usual although prices varied. Best price for beer was 23k which was near the big church in Mala Strana.

Visited the museum of decorative arts so as to do something different and it was very interesting. Recommended, although it%26#39;s very hot inside.

Masopust or Czech Mardi Gras

|||

Peb, did you mean to send that reply to my message

|||

Yes. You asked what the fireworks were about

|||

Oh right, sorry, must be tired from the journey back

Winslow1,

I take it you were happy with the hotel ? We will be staying there later this month.

Did you eat in one of their Pubs ?

|||

We ate at Pub 1 and Pub 2 several times during our last trip to Prague and it was one of our favorite places for some snacks with our beers. Once we tried the potato pancakes with bacon and blue cheese and the beer cheese with toast, that%26#39;s what we ordered every time!

|||

Food is the same in both although much better atmosphere in the larger of the two. To be honest we had to get out and eat at other places so only ate there once but it was great.

Had the sausage in sauce for starter (delicious) and for main meal had what they call the farmer%26#39;s delicattesen which was a mixture of meats and was very filling.

For any of you staying at the hotel don%26#39;t be too shocked by the scrambled egg at breakfast as it%26#39;s got onion in it but I%26#39;m hooked.

Lovely setting for a hotel and would highly recommend it although we may have been spoilt with our room.

Did you hear the very loud siren go off in stare Mesto on Wednesday? It sounded like the 4 minute warning - we wondered if they were teasting the flood defenses or something?

|||

Yes we did and I think we were right near the megaphone before it went off. I think we were near the Bethlehem Chapel. Not sure what it was but we also saw gas masks on sale in a supermarket in Mala Strana so the Czechs are better prepared (or more cautious) than we will ever be.

It was indeed the civil defence siren which they let off every month. This month, they of course wanted to let it coincide with Mr Putin%26#39;s visit to show what a strong nation the Czech Republic is
