Am planning on being in Czech Republic for two weeks in September and plan to spend at least 10 days of that time on the road around the country.
Our preference is to travel with no hotel reservations (enjoy the flexibility) but I%26#39;ve heard that we may end up sleeping in the car, as Sept. is high tourist season.
Any insights you may have would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Zopzing

September isn%26#39;t as busy as that and apart from the Sumava, you should be able to find accomodation.
I would though book in advance purely to avoid the hassle of trying to find accomodation each night. Remember in the countryside where most people work 6am till 2pm, if you turn up at 6pm, you may find reception closed, or the receptionist saying that they are full when they are not (simply because it is too much hassle to arrange for an extra visitor who has not booked), or more probably when they see you are a foreigner, they will say that the only rooms left are the apartments which will cost you twice as much as a normal rate for a normal room. And of course at breakfast you will see that the hotel or pension is half empty. So in essence you will pay for your flexibility.
In reality the Czech Republic is quite small so if you base yourself in no more than 3 or 4 places, you should be able to make day trips to see most of the areas of interest

We did three weeks last September and used public transport as I didn%26#39;t fancy driving abroad. I took a lonely planet and rough guide and got the reception of the hotel I was staying in to ring ahead and book my next place. Never had any problem getting in anywhere.
