Help planning a driving trip

I am travelling to Czech with my husband this summer for our honeymoon, his family is Czech but he has never been there so we are really looking forward to it! We have booked a hotel in Prague for 3 nights and one in Cesky Krumlov for 3 nights as well... we have two more nights in between them and I am having a really hard time trying to choose another destination. I was thinking we could go to Karlovy vary for a couple nights and then stop in Plzen on our way to Cesky Krumlov or do you think it would be better to stay the extra two nights in Prague and maybe go on a day trip to Kutna Hora or even just a day trip to Karlovy Vary?

Thanks!

Unless the family is from around Cesky Krumlov, I would stay in Prague for 4 nights and Cesky Krumlov for 2 nights (you only need one full day (2 nights either side) to see the city in full.

Assuming from your note that you have access to a car, if you want to go to Plzen, Karlovy Vary or Kutna Hora, it is much easier just to drive there for the day (any of these places are within 2 hours drive of Prague) and come back to your hotel in Prague for the evening instead of wondering round like nomads.

Even better still, if your husband has never been to Prague before, you will easily need the 3 nights (and preferasbly 4 nights) in Prague to see Prague and not anywhere else (especially if you will go to Cesky Krumlov).

Unless the family lives near Prague, I would therefore only hire the car for the time that you are going to Cesky Krumlov as you will only spend rental hire money for the car sitting outside the hotel in Prague.

If you really want another daytrip, the royal castle at Karlstejn is within a hour by train from Prague.

In Cesky Krumlov, check where your hotel is. Most of the hotels right in the centre are in a pedestrian zone and so do not have vehicle access, or a car park.
